NAK Design Studios was founded on a simple belief: great branding comes from combining sharp business instincts with relentless creative execution. Co-founders Nick Friga and Kenzie Kim bring that exact combination — pairing real-world consulting and design experience with the discipline of competing at the highest levels of collegiate athletics.
Nick brings a builder's mindset to every NAK project, shaped by experience across consulting, entrepreneurship, and competitive athletics. He has worked as a consultant with the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, analyzing financial statements and developing revenue growth strategies for higher education institutions, and has advised early-stage entrepreneurs as a Venture Fellow with the Carolina Angel Network.
That same analytical rigor drives his approach to branding: understanding a business's goals before designing the visual identity to match.
Outside of client work, Nick is a nationally competitive distance runner, having earned four varsity letters and All-State honors at Durham Academy before heading to Claremont McKenna College to run Division III cross country and track. The discipline required to balance training, leadership, and entrepreneurship has shaped how he approaches every project at NAK: with structure, attention to detail, and a relentless drive to get the details right.
Kenzie blends a founder's execution with an elite athlete's discipline to lead the visual direction of NAK Design Studios. As principal designer, she specializes in transforming complex organizational concepts into clean, high-impact brand identities — work that includes spearheading the official rebrand for UNC's Integrated Translational Oncology Program (ITOP) and winning a city-wide commission to paint a public mural in downtown Chapel Hill.
That same eye for commercial marketability led her to launch a custom nail art business, which she scaled to over 250 clients and more than $15,000 in net profit, with her designs ultimately featured at the NCAA Division I Swimming Championships and amplified across major national sports media platforms with hundreds of thousands of followers. A global perspective further shapes her work: she is fluent in Chinese, was named a national finalist in the Why Learn Languages competition, and has led social media campaigns that drove a 90% increase in profile engagement.
Outside of NAK, Kenzie is heading to Williams College this fall to swim at the Division III level. Her high school golf team won three consecutive state championships, and she earned ten top-five finishes at the state level in individual swimming events. The precision required to win at that level shapes how she approaches design: meticulous, deliberate, and always polished.
